Cedar Lake Farm Park reopening Memorial Day weekend
After nearly two years of redevelopment, Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park in New Prague will reopen to the public on Memorial Day weekend.
The park will reopen on Saturday, May 28. It was closed in August 2015 while it underwent improvements by the Three Rivers Park District and Scott County.
The park will now feature an additional 0.6 miles of paved trails, an expanded beach, hand-carry access for kayaks and canoes, accessible parking, a full restoration to the property barn and a new maintenance building.
Improvements to the park were paid for by the Trails Legacy Fund, a component of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy amendment passed by Minnesota residents in 2008. In 2015, the county’s parks improvement plan legacy fund allotted $1.85 million to extend trails and renovate the old barn on the site in addition to other improvement designs. Construction began last year when the County Board awarded a $1.41 million contract to K.A. Witt and a $200,000 construction administration contract with HGA Inc.
The county received a $275,000 grant from the Metropolitan Council to aid in costs for the first phase of construction in March.
New public programming activities will be available this summer such as stand-up paddle boarding, archery, canoeing and fishing. There will also be a series of summer day camps.
An official “grand opening” is planned during the Midsummer Festival on July 16 and will include a tractor parade.
Construction will continue on 2.5 miles of soft trails built using turf, dirt and wood chips and is expected to finish next spring.
